Look Inside: Landmarked Former Upper West Side School Transforms Into Luxury Condo
A landmarked 20th century Upper West Side private school has turned into a residential building.
Originally built in 1908 by acclaimed architect William A. Boring, 555 West End Avenue is a landmark in the Riverside-West End Historic District. The property is being restored and transformed by Tamarkin Co. in partnership with CL Investment Group into a collection of luxurious, yet modern residences.
555 West End Avenue features no more than two residences per floor and a total of 13 units.
The residences include walk-in pantries, eat-in-kitchens and natural light.
Each residential unit has three- to five-bedrooms.
Hand-selected marble slabs, custom white oak vanities and high-end fixtures adorn the master bathrooms of the residences.
Each home at 555 West End Avenue has a unique layout with a number of the residences taking inspiration from the quintessential spaces that historic private school used to occupy in within the building.
For example, the school’s former library has been transformed into a five-bedroom duplex residence called The Library, a unit which features an open-plan great room and kitchen that stretches 42 feet in length and boasts towering windows and 18.5-foot-tall ceilings. The asking price for The Library residence is $10.5 million.
Another breathtaking unit is The Solarium Penthouse. The $18 million Solarium Penthouse features three-bedrooms and is crafted out of the school’s former gymnasium. The penthouse boasts of a great room with a soaring barrel-vaulted ceiling that rises 20 feet, a massive skylight, and floor-to-ceiling windows that open onto a private south-facing terrace.
